GENERAL COIT PROJECTS

Braces.org redesign:

Dr. Savage said that the project will consist of three members from the Council on Communications (COC) and three COIT members. COC will assist COIT in the budget development and COC will provide input on content and appearance. The development process will be the same as the member web site redesign and include a planning session in St. Louis, layout reviews, and a development/testing phase.  There is no money currently budgeted for this project. COIT will submit a budget motion to the AAO Board of Trustees’ for their August 2005 meeting.

Constituent Web Sites Program

A conference call with interested constituents was held on May 11, 2005.  The California Association of Orthodontists web site was reviewed and input was provided regarding the needs of the interested constituents.

The final draft of the constituent web site master template is in process through the AAO. Once approved, the AAO will begin setting up sites.  It is anticipated this will begin in October, 2005.  The three constituent groups who are still interested are GLAO, MSO, and RMSO.

The COIT subcommittee members for this program are Richard Savage, Chair, Joe Janowski, Gary Kloberdanz, Gary Opin, and Larry Wang.

INTERNET SERVICES PROJECT UPDATE

Redundant Web Site Project

This project provides server failover for AAO web servers, and some AAO internal systems, if a server goes down or needs to be taken off line. When this system goes live, AAO web site visitors will have no knowledge when a primary web server is unavailable.

Status: The project is in its final phase.

Expected Completion Date: May 12, 2005

Web Server Move to New Hosting Environment

On March 18, 2005, the AAO web servers were moved to a new hosting company. The new provider offers the AAO with lower costs and more services than our previous provider. The move was a large undertaking by both AAO staff and outside vendors, but through mutual cooperation by all, the entire project went smoothly.

Status: Completed

WEBSITE PROJECT UPDATE

Ortho Locator

This project will update Orthodontic Locator on braces.org and add the same mapping functionality to the AAO members.org site. The member site will feature member-oriented searches (e.g. slot size, technique, etc.).

Status:  The public site, which makes up the core of this project, is almost completed; work is progressing on the Member site.

Expected Launch: Before Annual Session

Develop An Online Testing System For The AJO/DO Test

This is an online version of the test that appears in each issue of the AJO/DO. The majority of the work was done in-house by Steve Ruch. This test will tie into the AAO’s CE Credit Manager System which was also developed by Steve.

Status: Project is in the final stages.

Expected Launch: Week of May 9, 2005

Library Enhancements

This project expands the current online forums for members, and provides more automation and more integration with other AAO systems.

Status: Specifications are being defined and a request for proposal (RFP) will be sent out in May.

Expected Launch: Summer 2005.
