Congratulations to Dr. Frank E. Cordray
Recipient of the 2008 GLAO B. Holly Broadbent, Sr. Memorial Lecture Award, presented at the 2008 GLAO/MASO Annual Session.

The GLAO B. Holly Broadbent, Sr. Memorial Lecture is offered by the GLAO to individuals who have achieved acclaim and have contributed widely to the art and science of orthodontics. The Lecture is to be a meritorious essay on original research related to the field of orthodontics. The lecture shall be previously unpublished and suitable for publication in the American Journal of Orthodontics. The GLAO is proud to announce this year’s lecture was awarded to Frank E. Cordray, DDS, MS. On Saturday, October 11th, at 8:30am, Dr. Cordray presented “A Three-Dimensional Analysis of Models Articulated in the SCP/CR Port II: A Comparison of Deprogrammed Asymptomatic and Symptomatic Populations: A Prospective Study.” Dr. Cordray was presented with the award just prior to his lecture.
Dr. Frank Cordray, a native of Grove City, Ohio, received his BA in zoology from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio-Phi Beta Kappa) and his DDS and MS (orthodontics) from Ohio State University (Phi Kappa Phi), graduating in 1986. He became Board-Certified in 1991 and in 1994 he completed an additional 2-year continuing education course in comprehensive clinical orthodontics with Roth-Williams International, where he has served as the Teaching Committee Chairman. He maintains private practices in Worthington and Grove City, Ohio, is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at Ohio State University, and a Guest Lecturer for the graduate orthodontics program at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Frank is a member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists (Eastern Component), a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, author of four published articles on the importance of the seated condylar position in dental and orthodontic correction, and a Consultant for both the American Journal of Orthodontics and the Angle Orthodontist. He recently received the 2006 Distinguished Service Award given by the Dawson Center for the Advancement of Dentistry. This is a national award for the best research paper in dentistry in the year 2005 and was awarded for his Angle Society research paper entitled “A three-dimensional analysis of models articulated in the seated condylar position from a deprogrammed asymptomatic population –a prospective study-Part I” which was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in May, 2006.
In addition to his teaching duties, Dr. Cordray has lectured extensively to graduate orthodontic programs throughout the country (most recently North Carolina, the University of Chicago, the University of Missouri, NYU, Tennessee, Eastman, University of Michigan, and Harvard) and has been a speaker at both the component level (Northeast Society of Orthodontics (NESO) meeting in December, 1997) and a four-time speaker at the national AAO/WFO meetings in May, 1998 (Dallas), 2000 (Chicago), 2003 (Hawaii), and 2008 (Denver).
His primary area of focus is clinical orthodontics, with emphasis on functional occlusal concepts, gnathology, and the importance of centric relation treatment, condylar position, and articulator use in orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, and occlusal finishing. He also lectures on Straight Wire Appliance treatment mechanics and orthognathic surgical correction and execution.
Dr. Cordray, his wife Kathy, and daughters Ruthie and Emma reside on Hartford Street in Worthington, Ohio. When not in the office, Frank enjoys spending time with his family, running, and playing and coaching basketball.
